Microclimate influences workers’ well-being.
As already discussed in our previous post, anthropogenic activities, as is well known, are the main cause of global warming and the main source of climate changing. At the same time, current climate changes produce a worsening of air quality.
ART-ECO believes that the microclimate combined with indoor air pollution, have a significant influence on the quality of the environment in which people live and work, and thus on their well-being.
The quality of indoor workplace’s air, is considered acceptable when no specific pollutants are detected in a harmful concentration and when at least 80% of the persons inside express satisfaction with it.
How air quality is quantified.
A team of European reserchers, including Ole Fanger, have introduced two new units of measurment called OLF and DECIPOL, with the aim of finding a formula to define air quality perceving.
The first term is used to quantify pollution in closed environments, and it’s important to underline that people themselves are the primary source of pollutants due to bioeffluent emissions.
This word means a certain amount of pollutants formed within the environment, understood as the amount of ‘stench’, which, for each person, corresponds to one OLF. The second one, the DECIPOL, represents the unit of measurement of the perceivable quality of the ambient air, as a result of the relationship between pollutants and ventilation.
