Portable Cooling

The most frequently asked questions regarding mobile cooling systems.

Is assembly needed on delivery?

Portable coolers are Plug and Play and ready to use right out of the box; only some models require the wheels to be assembled

How should I prepare my unit for storage at the end of the season?

If wet, we recommend drying the pads completely by setting the cooler to ventilation mode only and then running the fan for about 15 min with the pump stopped. Thoroughly empty and clean the cooler tank, cover the unit and store it in a dry place for the winter season.

I switched on my cooler for the first time and there is a bad smell! What does it mean?

The filters/evaporating packs or pads have never been wetted before, and so when they become wet for the first time their natural resin can release a smell. This can last from one to two weeks of use. Keep the units in a ventilated area until the smell disappears.

What should I do if my unit smells bad?

New units may release a smell during the first few weeks. This smell disappears within two weeks of use. If the unit is not new, the cause of the bad smell may be algae or bacterial growth due to improper maintenance. We recommend thorough cleaning and maintenance of the cooler and, if necessary, replacement of the pads. If the smell persists, we recommend an analysis of the water used and an assessment of whether suitable filters and softeners should be installed in the water supply system.

My unit does not produce cool air!

Check the back of the unit to see if the pads are wet and there is water running over them. The evaporation process requires the pads to be wet. Then check on the control panel that cooling mode is on (if it is, try to switch it off and then back on again). Also make sure that there is water in the tank, which must be at least half full. If not, fill it manually or connect the unit to the water supply and open the tap. If the previous checks did not indicate anything wrong, and the cooler is still not producing cool air, call our service centre.

What is the difference between evaporative coolers and mist cooling systems?

Mist cooling systems generate tiny droplets in the air, creating a slight damp effect on nearby people and objects. On the other hand, adiabatic cooling units decrease the air temperature by exploiting the natural evaporation process, without ever introducing damp air into the environment.

How do I lubricate the motor fan?

Apply 30-35 drops of SAE 20 oil (non-detergent oil or oil for electric motors) once a year for units used continuously, every two years for units used intermittently, and every five years for units only used occasionally. Make sure that the oil does not fall into the tank or on the blades.

Where can I buy spare parts?

Spare parts can be purchased from the dealer who sold you the unit(s), or by contacting our ART-ECO offices in Rossano Veneto (VI).

: How much humidity is produced by a cooler?

A variable and unquantifiable increase in relative humidity can occur, which depends on temperature, moisture content and weather conditions. This increase in humidity is not noticeable with suitable ventilation, when the air produced by the unit is constantly evacuated through doors, windows and skylights, or using air extractors.

How much can the machine run with the water in the tank without adding more?

It depends on cooler model and tank size; refer to the water consumption information found on the data sheet of the unit or the manual and consider the tank capacity. The evaporation time also varies depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment. Units with the possibility of permanent water connection have an internal float valve that regulates the water flow inside the tank, so that they can independently draw in water as needed.

Can I put ice in the tank to increase cooling?

The vapour produced by water with ice can be collected and distributed by the fan, but this does not increase evaporation. On the contrary, it reduces evaporation and does not increase cooling.

Is electricity consumption as high as for traditional air conditioning?

Considering the surfaces and the volumes treated, coolers are significantly (about eight times) cheaper to run than the most common air-conditioning systems.

By how much can the temperature be lowered

The adiabatic cooling system is affected by the conditions of the inlet air and especially by temperature and humidity: the dryer the inlet air, the more efficient will be the coolers and the more they will be able to lower the temperature. The air normally leaves the unit approximately 4 to 10 °C cooler.

Do I need to keep doors and windows closed when the system is in operation?

No, adiabatic cooling requires continuous air renewal, and so doors, windows and skylights must always be kept wide open. This will also help evacuate the saturated and exhausted warm air, so that the air in the environment is constantly fresh, renewed and healthy.
