FAQ

Fixed cooling

The most frequently asked questions regarding fixed cooling systems.

What is the difference between evaporative coolers and mist cooling systems?

Mist cooling systems generate tiny droplets in the air, creating a slight damp effect on nearby people and objects. On the other hand, adiabatic cooling units decrease the air temperature by exploiting the natural evaporation process, without ever introducing damp air into the environment.

I switched on my cooling system for the first time and there is a bad smell. What's wrong?

The filters inside the machine, more commonly known as evaporator packs or pads, have never been wetted before, and so when they become wet for the first time their natural resin can release a smell that may last up to a week. If the smell persists, we recommend an analysis of the water in the water system supplying water to the coolers and an assessment of whether suitable filters and softeners should be installed and/or, if already installed, if they need calibrating.

How often should the pads be changed?

The replacement of the pads depends on the quality of the maintenance carried out, the quality of the air in the area where they are used, the quality of the water and the frequency of use of the system. On average, pads can last three to four seasons but it all depends on the type of water used, air pollution and proper seasonal maintenance. Their replacement is a procedure that must be carried out by Art-Eco's specialist technicians.

How much humidity is produced by the coolers?

The relative humidity produced can vary depending on several factors, such as temperature, humidity of the inlet air, rate of air renewal, geographic location and reference territory. This increase in humidity is not noticeable with suitable ventilation, when the air produced by the coolers is constantly evacuated through doors, windows and skylights, or using air extractors. Moreover, the cooler and more humid air processed by the machine gives to people a greater feeling of freshness

Is electricity consumption as high as for traditional air conditioning?

Unlike other traditional air-conditioning systems, evaporative adiabatic cooling has a very low impact on energy consumption. Considering the surfaces and volumes treated, coolers are significantly (about eight times) cheaper than the most common air-conditioning systems.

To improve cooling efficiency, is it better to supply the coolers with cold water?

Water temperature is not a necessary and indispensable condition for good performance. What is more important is the level of saturation of the pads. The more and better the evaporator packs are soaked with water, the faster the air inside the working environment is cooled.

Will dust enter from outside?

The coolers are equipped with filters and pre-filters which when cleaned regularly partially capture the dust and germs in the air, purifying it and ensuring healthier air in the environment.

Do I need to keep doors and windows closed when the system is in operation?

No, adiabatic cooling requires continuous air renewal, and so doors, windows and skylights must be kept wide open. This will also help evacuate the exhausted warm air, so that the air in the environment is constantly renewed and healthy.

By how much can the temperature be lowered?

The adiabatic cooling system is affected by the conditions of the inlet air and especially by outside temperature and humidity: the dryer the inlet air, the more efficient will be the coolers and the higher will be the DELTA T reached. On average, the air leaving the machine will be about 4 °C to 10 °C cooler.

What should I do to ensure that systems are maintained regularly?

Upon request, Art-Eco can intervene with its own teams to carry out ordinary and/or extraordinary maintenance and scheduled cleaning on its systems. To ensure that the system is always in good working order, regular cleaning and maintenance are recommended.

How can I prevent the formation of mould, algae and bacteria inside the coolers?

Advanced electronics, combined with state-of-the-art automation systems, allow the setting of self-cleaning and reservoir/tank emptying cycles. At every working cycle (8/10 hours on average) the coolers will autonomously complete a cleaning cycle.

How can I prevent the formation of legionella in the water?

We provide a sanitising bead for each cooler, to be placed inside the tanks.

This eliminates bacteria and inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi inside evaporative coolers.

The water is purified simply by passing and/or standing in contact with the beads, which are stored inside a PVC ball; the conformation of the beads negatively charges the water molecules and the ionising component emits nascent oxygen, making the treated water inhospitable to fungi and bacteria. This natural process takes place thanks to the natural emission of the silver ions and the tourmaline that they contain.

The real innovation is the ability to remain constantly active inside the tank, gradually releasing the active ingredient and therefore preventing bacterial proliferation.
